Larry Morgan's new Stang
Look what just rolled out. I promise to get more photos if he will let me. I will also try to get an approximate HP number if he will let me too.

Goodie Goodie Goodie... Maybe he'll debut it at the last race next week, since he's not in the points anyway... Be cool if he did and he could lay down a butt whoopin' right off the trailer...

RJ Race cars is only 27 miles from me. might have to do a drive by next time I'm in Galesburg. Have seen a few pro cars there. They do build alot.
Might have to take a shop tour and see some new tangs.
Looked into a job there once, but the pay wasnt as good as I already made.

More pics
The motor should fire monday. The car is slick. I only took photos of what would be safe. Nothing too revealing of what they do and how they build/set the engine up.

I call him Uncle Larry. I will say I had a BBF before he did. One of the guys said, "Looks like bringing that Ford in here started something."

The entry list says Morgan with a Dodge, but that might not mean anything.

Re: Larry Morgan's new Stang
While I am as giddy as the next Ford freak on the planet about the possibillities for Ford in NHRA Pro Stock next year I have a couple of concerns.
Near as I can tell this motor is a clean sheet project that shares little if anything from the 385 series or any other previous ford motor for that matter. I have seen neat ford stuff come and go with alarming regularity over my 53 years so far and my biggest fear is that this will be another blazing comet in an otherwise dark sky for Ford. Time and time again they have started development on neat projects, Boss 429, 427 tunnel port, 351C, GT40, the 385 series in general. All of these projects had massive undeveloped potential that was left on the table when the next best idea came along.
The General had some basic stuff that worked ok but they stuck to a development plan and made the parts easily available to Joe public. How many versions of cylinder head were available for the sbf over the counter from your local ford dealer in the 60's 70's?
I believe that this is an oppourtunity for Ford to make huge inroads in to the racing community,,,, If they want it,,, Hopefully the project doesnt vaporize after a couple of glorious successful seasons or a single championship.
Say all the bad stuff you want about Bob Glidden but his ultimate downfall was the lack of factory engineering support. He was working with old stuff while the other guys were developing new blocks, new heads, etc on a regular basis. For the last five years of Bob's carreer all we heard was "when we get the new block we will be competitive again" or "when we get the new heads we will be competitive again"
I do sincerely hope that Larry and Jim and Erica and maybe even Robert have great years with this new stuff. I will certainly be watching with great expectations.

You hit that right on the head Dean...
While I agree, that basically, you have to run what the NHRA will allow you to run, I have to disagree with NHRA for the simple fact that "basically" all the Ford Hemi heads and the blocks are "designed" to be the same as the Mopar... If I'm reading stuff right, the "Ford" block has the drivers' side head forward just like the GM, and Mopar blocks, and from some of the pics I've seen, even has the same firing order... I'm not looking for arguement here but it looks to me like the NHRA is making the Ford guys run a Mopar with Ford valve covers... I sure hope I'm reading into it wrong, but like I said, "to me" it's pointed in that direction... It definitely is different... And strangely so... I guess when it really comes down to it, nothing at this level is brand specific, except the car body... Sorry for the rant, just questioning what I'm seeing...

Bottom line, Doug, is we aren't reinventing the wheel here. Is it a coincidence that the Sonny Leonard Chevy hemi heads use the same rocker arms as the Ford IHRA hemi heads? I don't think so. Kind of comes under the heading of "don't fix it if it ain't broke". Given the fact Ford wants to recruit folks running the other brands, it makes sense to me to build things similar to what they presently run. Clearly it is working for GM and Mopar, what's wrong with refining their designs and improving upon them? In my mind, nothing, but perhaps I'm not the "purist" some others are. I just want to see Ford in Pro Stock and doing well. The fact they aren't doing it with a 385 series is just the way it is, at least in my mind. Only time will tell if Ford is in it for the long haul or if they are going to bail out as they have in the past. Just my thoughts...

WIll this help
Look at this and tell me what you think. I tried not to take any more to not let any cats out of the bag. I was the sheet and verse his best MOPAR plus the wind tunnel defference of the cars. He is up 80 hp with the first motor and new car. I looked at the both of them and they are similar but not the same.

Re: Larry Morgan's new Stang
I had a good conversation with Brian Wolfe on Monday. As many of you know he is the director of north america motorsports for Ford. They are very committed to this pro stock program, at least as much as they can be at this point. He is also very confident that Larry will get this car competitive, and he is off to a good start. Very first run on the car, 2 burn outs to scuff the new tires, stage it, launch it run to 1000 ft. strait as a arrow. Made minor chassis adjustments and made 2 more 1320 hits strait down broadway. In my book that is impressive. Testing got rained on Tues., and dont look good for Weds. so everything was packed in and headed to another track with a better forecast for Weds. I do have some pics that I can post soon as I get a chance and soon as I find someone smarter than me (which dont take much) to post them.
