Re: 632 C head engine
I finally made it home, and what a blast. I want to thank Phillip and Curly for an awesome engine, and a great time while there. When we took these engines out there in December, and discussed where we wanted to go, I never dreamed that we would have gone this far. Phillip has done some phenomenal work with both the BBC and BBF. My buddy Todd's engine was the first engine that Phillip ever built top to bottom brand new complete. That was three years ago when he was still in his garage. He now has a state of the art facility at his new shop and is growing leaps and bounds. My engine has been in the works since then when I bought a new block from Lem, and a set of rods from Phillip, and just waited for the rest of the pieces to fall into place. I am glad that I took my time and gathered the pieces over time. The most important piece of the puzzle came this last fall when Phillip made me a deal on his used Bryant 4.75" billet crank. I think he was just tired of my block taking up space in his shop, and wanted to build something out of it. I had purchased a set of Oliver rods from Phillip a while back that were waiting for this deal, but since then, the bar has been raised by Callies and Phillip traded me rods. With a solid bottom end planned out, it was time to decide what to do with my heads. Dave Freelander made the decision a little easier when he purchased my old castings and this let Phillip get creative with a new set of C's with his own porting and valve job. I now have an almost all brand new engine here. The only items reused from my old engine were the rockers and intake. There was one more part that we decided on while out there, and that was a new carb. I had seen a prototype 2.300" butterfly Quick Fuel carb that Phillip had a couple years ago, and had discussed with him at length. These carbs are very limited production and custom built. It is a serious game changer with these big engines. Fast forward to now. I could tell when we got to KY that Phillip and Curly were thrashing pretty hard to get our engines done, and done right. We weren't disappointed when we finally got to pulling them on the dyno. You can see the results, a big inch C head engine that made over 2 hp/ci. Thanks to Oakley Motorsports, Phillip and Curly for the most awesome single 4bbl C head engine existence. Phillip if you would please thank Mr. Bowles for the hospitality and great conversation while there too.

I wonder what it would have done with the Max NOS. I did back to back runs on my little deal with the Maximal, Q16, and Sonoco Max NOS and got the most with the Max NOS.
Awesome numbers and I wanna see videos of this thing skimming the surface!!

With 1,001 lbs. ft. @ 5,800 rpm & 1,003 lbs ft. @ 6,500 rpm it'd take a little thinking about how to impeller a jet drive boat.

Have any of you guys tried that new VP-C45?kjett wrote:schmitty wrote:Sunoco Maximal

Those are some really good numbers ! Good job Rob & to all involved.
I would like to hear more about that carb. Are they readily availible or custom order type deal ? Are they still called a 1450 or something else ?
Later Mark

Mark, they are a custom only deal. Oakley can hook you up with one. All of the credit on this deal goes to Phillip, all I did was pay the bill at the end.

Thats a whole lot of farming to pay that bill. No wonder why corn is so expensive.

Still spreading fertilizer and such. Denny is taking a peek inside the trans to make sure it's up to the task too. I got a good idea that it might just be able to give them big ole mudders a spin.KY JELLY wrote:Well will it squak the tires in that old truck or are you still busy spreading fertilize and such ?

Talked with Lem today and he said you had a piston issue to correct and then all would be well.
