Re: Scat crankshaft ?
Correction, I was comparing the Lightweight to the Ultra Lightweight. Sorry about that.supervel45 wrote:http://www.survivalmotorsports.com/scatcrank06.pdf About 6lbs less on a 4.5" stroke BBC. Can't find any BBF weights on the net for some reason.

The Lunati looks a better piece. Nicer finish. Machining looked and measured better.
No problem balancing. I can't remember the bob weight but it's a 4.5" Diamond flat top and a Callies I beam steel rod.

Re: Scat crankshaft ?
Thanks for the info. I ordered a Lunati crank. Also got a set of P-51's on the way.

Re: Scat crankshaft ?
I've sold several of the Lunati crankshafts. Nobody has had to add any wt. to them.
Good quality machining on the Lunati
The Lunati in my engine was very nice and balanced without issue. Now if they would make a 4.750 stroke version I would be all over it.

Re: Scat crankshaft ?
Sounds like a nice crank for the money. I can hardly wait to get it. I have been looking at bearing's and am considering Clevite "V" series, they offer .001 or .002 extra clearance and no groove. I don't know what clearance the std H or V series bearings would have as compared to a stock replacement bearing. I know most stock replacement bearings will yield about .001 to .0015 clearance, I am shooting for .003 to .0032. Can anyone tell me should I start with a .001 extra clearance bearing or .002 when using the H or V series bearings???

You need to dumb it up with bearings in it check them and then check the crank subtract the 2 and that's your clearance then adjust from there to where you want..... some times I have to use to different bearing sizes to get the clearance I need.

I understand how to check, I am just trying to get away with buying one set of bearings instead of two.
In the old days you could look in the paper catalog and get the crown thickness measurement.

To get that kind of clearance the main bearing housing will needed to be honed to 3.193"....the 'high' side of spec.

I don't trust the catalog specs

Re: Scat crankshaft ?
Thanks, I will check the housing bore size and the crank journal diameter when it gets here.

Crankshaft
The Lunati crank is a nice piece. Sort of reminds me of an RPM crank. The Lunati is finished much nicer though. The 4.300 will go internal without mallory from my experience.
