Post  stanger68 on November 9th 2018, 10:46 pm

557 A-460 built for alcohol.

Bottom end:
D1 factory block
Lunati forged 4.5" crank
Lunati 6.8"rods w/ bolt upgrade
Racetec forged dome tops 8cc ,pistons notched for spark plug not sure how much we took off. Compression should be 13.25-13.4:1
Total Seal gapless rings.
Pro-Gram splayed billet 4 bolt caps on #2,3,4, billet 2 bolt cap on #1 main, stock rear.
Added metal to fill the low spot between the factory main register and the oil pan rail to have enough meat for a new main cap register.
Align bored and honed main journals.
Squared the deck, pistons .008 down the hole.
Cloyes -.005 short timing chain, double pinned
Detailed block casting, polished oil journals.
Matched oil drain backs to heads and gaskets.
Melling HV/HP oil pump.
Milodon rear sump Fox body oil pan.
Clevite bearings - rods .0025-.003, mains .0035-.004
Piston-wall clearance .0055
ATI Aluminum damper

Top end:
TFS 18 bolt 340cc A-460 heads. No port work just verified guide clearance and cleaned.
Fel-Pro 1018 head gaskets.
Straubtech camshaft- duration @50 273/283 lift: .430/.408 ;centerline 106 intake 112 ex.
The actual measure lift at the valve tip is a little more than the math suggest it should be. I'm guessing this is due to the angle/length of the pushrods.
Comp cams 3/8 .120 wall pushrods. 9.650 ex., 9.250 Intake.
Comp cams chrome moly 1.8 rockers
Crower severe duty solid roller lifters; custom dual oil holes to rollers.
Trick Flow cast single 4 manifold lightly ported plenum to match Rons terminator TB.
Not sure what size the headers were that we used on the dyno I think they were 2 3/8  BBC. My headers for the car are 2 1/4" side exit.

If I left anything out just ask.

Before I post the dyno results anybody want to take a stab at it? I can only tell you a few basic numbers right now. I received all the data on a thumb drive and have been un able to get it to open since it is on an older operating system. He forgot to add the setup file that allows you to view data. Currently waiting on them to mail me hard copies.

971 hp @ 6800 rpm on M1 and rons terminator injection. I don’t remember the exact torque number but it was close to 900 lb., avg. hp was 956. Couldn’t be happier with the build. I will post the full sheet when I get them. I feel pretty confident we could’ve squeezed another 10-15 hp out of it, but I ran out of pills. It kept climbing with every pill change. We stopped at 76 and 35 deg timing. The more fuel we put to it the happier it got.

Made 918 hp @ 6500 rpm on Q16 gas and 1050 QF dominator.

Big thanks to all of you who gave advice along the way it paid off big time. bounce

Great numbers, I thought it would be around 870hp
I am waiting for my dyno results too, its a 557 with JE pistons 14:1 compression, eagle forged 4.5 stroke crank, scat H-beam rods, comp cam solid roller camshaft(dont know numbers yet, but not too aggressive), SCJ heads with stage 2 porting job and racing valve job, and with a rons terminator. I am expecting around 750hp

Thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if you were closer to or over 800. But you said the cam is not aggressive.

Honestly I started out with a goal of 1000 but after running some calculations I figured I didn't really need it to get the times i wanted and it would seriously push the limits of the car. So I scaled the plan back to 900-930 with room for growth later. Be damned I almost got there anyway LOL. But I aint complaining.

76 pill was in it with the 971 pull. I’ll have to look up the nozzle size when I get back. I’m traveling home tomorrow. The previous pull had 80 and made about 10 less hp and afr was in the low 5’s. The 76 had afr’s ranging 4.8 -5.2 maybe. Ron recommends afr’s to be 5-5.5 but it seemed to like the fuel. At least on the dyno.

Yes on pump size. I believe a high speed bypas would’ve helped average hp/tq. We could’ve eliminated the half point swing in the afr’s. I really wanted to pull it with a 74 and 37 def timing to see but I ran out of daylight plus I didn’t have a 74 pill.

I picked up my engine yesterday and it made 801hp@6100 and 786lb/tq@4700 but using bbc headers with an adapter because. Do you think it can make a little more with my headers? what header size do you recommend?
It was using a 98 pill with 39 nozzle jets and with a 0 1/2 pump.

Sorry dude, I almost forgot. it's been a busy week. Looked at the invoice earlier and it shows a 39 nozzle.

Wow- 98 pill! That's a big difference to what I was using. But hey if that's what it likes let her eat, it'll save you money! LOL. As far as headers go, I doubt you find any serious gains as long as their not undersized is my thought. I've never ran an adapter though. Just a wild guess 2 1/8 min. ?? I'm not really a header guru.

To much ignition timing for that application using A460 heads unless the engine has a giant dome piston..

No I hope to this weekend. This car seems to be a homebody. First trip the ign box died loading it on the trailer. The second attempt the oil filter adapter cracked and started leaking oil. We will try again this week.

I wouldn’t call 8 cc a giant but it is a dome piston in a big chamber on alcohol.

Was this a misprint?
Or did you not use the cam mentioned in your original post?

Made great power with or without the Straub cam.

Cheers

So far so good, Only made a few junk passes about a month ago. Trans was slipping in second. Between having a very sick family member, work, and everything else going on I Haven't had time to do anything with it. I was going to go this weekend but it looks like we're going to get some rain.

Not really. Adjusted the fluid level and tightened the band. Made a couple passes last Friday and same shit. Got the trans out last night going to try and get it back in by this weekend. It’s been 20 years since I’ve built a trans though. We’ll see.
