Why is my new motor smoking???? Empty Why is my new motor smoking????

Post  Big block fox 339 January 13th 2010, 10:18 pm

Ok this is my first time building a motor I'm a real newb. Its a dive block over 30 stock crank stock rods stock rebuild pistons and new rings. All new bearings new lunati 61603 cam and lifters d3 heads that were cleaned up new springs to match the cam stealth intake 750 hp holly. Now the problem is if it sits a day or 2 it smokes when I crank it for about 30 seconds. I'm thinking valve seals maybe I'm not sure if they were replaced or not il ask motor guy tomorrow. Could I have done something wrong what do yall think ?

Thanks for the help Micah

Intake gasket pulling oil from the lifter valley? Or valve seals as you said.

Just on start up sounds like seals to me. I know you said you had matching springs, but you need to check the retainer ti guide clearance to make sure they aren't hitting and killing your seals. It could be the problem if you shop didn't cut down the guide and put on p/c seals.

As Blake already said, IF the valve guide height WASN'T machined shorter it will just smash the new valve seals again. The lift of that camshaft won't fit without retainer to seal contact using D3VE heads unless the guide height is machined.

Mine pulled oil into the heatriser crossover and burned it. I resealed the intake and it was fine afterwards
