C-6 Kick down

I need a little help understanding the real function of the kick-down rod on a C-6 trans. Is it possible to run without it,or will it kill the tranny? I'm putting a 425+ 468cid in my '65 Galaxie. It won't be a racer, just for some fun on the street. It will have 3.50 posi so I don't see the need for a passing gear feature. I'm thinking around 500 ft. lbs. so it should move around well. What am I missing? Thanks for the help. Carl

you can run with out it and not hurt the trans

Thanks Frank. I thought so but it's good to hear from someone that knows. That will save some time and effort better used on getting a set of headers that will work.
