Compression for 1971 429

Post  g612gr on February 12th 2010, 6:24 pm

I am going to get a stock 429 out of a 71 Torino next week....I'm not sure but I thought the compression was around 9:3...am I in the ball park with that? I'm sure you guys know. I am going to get the casting numbers for the head and block tomorrow. Been reading the forum everyday since I joined last week. You guys are amazingly "smart" on these engines. This motor is going into my 71 Ranchero. Haven't decided on cam or heads yet (thinking Edelbrock), but I would sure like to get into the 500 HP range with this motor. Don't have a problem running premium gas to get their either.
So many options with these motors on how to build them. Gets confusing at times. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give.
