I have a 93 F350 crewcab 4x4, 460 gas..110,000 miles, auto, 4:10 gears and 33' tires. I am getting 8 mpg running easy down the highway. What should something like this get normally? or is this just about right? What can be done to help this get better gas milage? I have an 86 1 ton dodge, 360..headers,4 bbl carb, small cam. stick,4:10 gears,38" tires. It gets me 16 on the highway. Thanks all in advance!

FORD DID A STUDY IN THE 90S, a lot matters, sun visors, running boards, bug sheilds, etc

but as you asked most get 10 to 12 mpg (460 efi)

some get better,

If you put headers on it, a lockup converter or manual trans, low rpm range cam, new intake and carb, it will get better performance and not have to work as hard to keep going. Also, the tires play a role (not that much though).

I would have to agree with the lockup convertor and possibly a different trans out of a newer ride. With a different trans with a lower first you could change the gears to 3.73's and still pull the same.

I have a 1995 F350 4x4 standard cab 8 foot bed... on 33's, 460/C6 and 4.10's it gets less than 10 miles per gallon... mine actually seems worse at extended highway speed due to no overdrive. aside from the 33 inch tires, I have NO exterior mods (no visors, bug shields, running boards, lights etc) Its always been a thirsty rig...

note: my truck only has 88,xxx miles on it. I bought it new in feb 1995... so its not a tired old truck either!

Hey guy's! thanks for the replies. My truck does have the automatic overdrive trans in it, visor, running lights on roof and fender flares. I was thinking that this thing should get at least 12/14 mpg, not 8!
whatbumper: beings this truck is also gutless in power, I think it needs to keep the 4:10 rears.
