shifnoid hook up

Post  mustangjeff on February 15th 2010, 2:03 pm

Any way to hook up a shifnoid to a shift light or a 6a msd box without a rpm activated switch?

Good question...if you have a tach with a shift light, you could cut into the wires from the tach that go to the light, install a relay...yes it would work.

I think on a shifnoid you have to switch them to neg. to make them work.

Even if you had to switch the negative, you could use a relay wired normally closed, and use the signal from the tach to open the relay...I believe it could be made to work.

Those shift noids are tricky to hook up, be damn sure to use the neutral safety switch that comes with the unit, if you don't when you rev it to your shift point it will shift, even in park, or neutral, I had a very bad experience with one.

I am lost on how to hook up the shifnoid to shift light, I have a red, green & black wire going to shift light. The red wire has power as soon as ignition is turned on & stays constant with ignition on, the black wire is a constant ground & the green wire is tach signal so what wires do I hook up to the relay & what terminals. The terminals on the relay are 85,86,87,87a & 30. The shift light has a pill holder built into it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't be able to do it with this type of tach/shift lite combo. You would need to have a tach that has a "push to set" button on it that sets what rpm the light comes on at...it has only 2 wires running from the tach to the light. Sorry, that is what I had in my mind when I made my earlier post.
The type you have...the light gets it's singnal to fire internally, from the chip. There would not be anything to tap into.
Either an rpm switch or a delay box will work, if you run one.

The tach is a 3904 autometer monster tach & it does have a shift point adjustment.it also has a two wire plug coming out of the bottom of it that is not connected to anything, I believe the two wire connector is for a shift light.

Try hooking it up like this...I'm fairly certain it will work. Use the 2-wire plug (that isn't connected) and connect them to #85 and #86. (Coil)
