Porting C9VE heads got 224 cfm at .800 lift... good?

Post  Maddmattmustangs on February 22nd 2010, 11:29 am

Is 224 cfm at .800 lift a good flow number for an iron C9VE production head with a 1.8 valve?

flow is above 200 from 600 lift on

The real question is where are the mid lift numbers and how turbulant are the ports and where is the flow in a realsitic lift say .650.........

Im not that good!
This is actually my second set of ported heads. I never flowed my clevelands.

I think the 1.8 valve is what did the flow numbers justice.

Im on the 3rd port now and it has the heat passage in it. would JB weld work well to plug that huge gaping whole back there?

Im at a complete and utter loss on the intakes no idea what im going to do there. Any helpful insight there would be useful.

Im going to try and post pics of the ports when i get home today.

Honestly i dont know how i did that, just shaped the port how i thought would work best. (if i were air screaming through here which turns would i like when....)
I called another local engine builder about 5 min ago i told him what they flowed on a bench and asked if he could check it on his. He volinteered to do it for nothing! Shocked
I just wanna make sure its flowing these numbers. I didnt know that 200 was a hard amount of flow to get out of these heads.

1.76 Valve gets in the 200 range +/-, Factory Size with porting, 180ish.

Also using a pipe will show much bigger numbers too.

well i had the heads reflowed they flowed as follows:
(without test pipe)

.100 54
.200 109
.300 146
.400 170
.500 193
.600 214
.700 217
.800 219

Im hoping if i back cut the valve that it will help out the lower lift numbers but they apparently are pretty good according to the guy that flowed the heads.

I told him that i did it with a dremel and he looked at me like i was insane! cyclops

Anyway what do you guys think?
