Whats up. i bought a 78 f350 about a year ago.I was told it had a 552 motor in it.When i bought it i had the tranny rebuilt on it. i got it back and had some one go over the motor and it had a bent push rod and the pistons shrank.I have a fresh 460 block i need some advice on going about building a new 552.what do i cut the block to and what parts to go with.

i was told that the person i bought the truck from ran it really hot and crossed thruogh a deep river. like i said i don't know to much about motors so i don't know if that can happen but i also know he did that more than once.my buddy that took the motor apart said when he removed the pistons the block was pitted inside.i bought another 460 block and i want to build a 552.i was hoping somebody could suggest what cam,crank,pistons,push rods and what head work i need done.

what use is the engine going to see ? street , race . what other upgades on car/truck ? trans/ rear / suspension . replacing heads or staying stock iron ? questions are info you need to provide. the big ? how much $$$$.00 you are willing to spend

the truck is used for mud. i just had a c6 trans built. it has a manual reverse valve body, twin stick np205 transfercase,detroit locked corp 14 bolt rear with 513 gears,front has detroit locked 35 spline inner and otter chromoly axles and 513 gears. want to build a 552 002, want to build a 552 003, want to build a 552 006, want to build a 552 008

Here's a link to my engine. It was built to "class" specs for an organization I run with. It is very reliable and puts down some serious power. I would swap to a good single plane intake though if not playing with organization rules. It has very good manners and loads of torque down low. You could use some different heads for even more hp/tq. A429's or TFS Streets would fill the bill nicely. https://www.429-460.com/proven-builds-f4/vac-motor-build-t179.htm

Yes sir, we have a 557" limit in our class. There is a little more in it now with a better set of headers and different rocker arms. I put on a set of 2" Mad Dog headers vs. the 1 7/8" it was dynoed with and now it has a set of 1.75 ratio Crower stainless rockers vs. the Crane Golds that were on it. I didn't realize that I had a set of 1.7 ratio rockers instead of true 1.73's, and added a set of Jomar stud girdles also. All in all maybe a little over 600hp now. I have competed against a lot of guys in several classes over the last couple of years and have always held my own and left the guys scratching their heads over how well it does. Cool
