Race Engine Weights

Post  c.evans on March 19th 2010, 10:39 am

Guys,

I've been doing some checking lately, with an very accurate and zeroed 1000 lb scale, of the BB Ford engines we've had going on the dyno lately. All engines were weighed without flexplate or starter, but with oil, carb and etc . In other words I've made sure that the comparisons are valid.

1. Bobby's engine. DOVE-A block, 4.442" X 4.500" = 559 CID, Milodon splayed 4 bolt main caps, P-51 heads, Victor, single 1250 QFX carb, Mezeire electric water pump. 600 lbs.

2. Mike's engine. FRPP SVO block, 4.420" X 4.300" (I think? Lem?), P-51 heads, Victor, single QFT carb, water pump. 641 lbs.

3. Todd's engine. FRPP SVO block, 4.600" X 4.500"= 598 CID, TFS A-460 heads, TFS 2 X 4 tunnel ram manifold, two QFT 1150 carbs, Mezeire electric water pump, Moroso vacuum pump, dry sump pump and lines, Peterson dry sump tank, & nitrous plumbing. 735 lbs.

4. Jeff's engine. DOVE-A block, 4.440 X 4.500"= 557 CID, short fill HardBlok, Milodon splayed 4 bolt main caps, TFS A-460 heads, TFS single four intake manifold, alum. mechanical water pump, single QFT carb. 627 lbs.

I hope this is helpful,

Charlie Evans

Very interesting Charlie. What is the weight diff between a hard blocked (Bare)DoveA w/billet 4 bolt main caps. And a A460 (Bare) w/same bore?

OR What is the weight of a A460 bare block?

Rick,
My old Dove block filled to the water pump holes, but with only 2 bolt mains and bored to 4.440 weighed 234.
My new A-460 block weighs 290 as it came from Lem, have not had it bored yet to see what the weight difference would be. Hopefully in a few weeks I will know the difference in weight.

I know the intake from trick flow is a heavy piece .esp when you put a hat on it.
I always wondered about weight UMMMM seems about the same as bbc Razz
I get so sick of hearing that thing has to be heavy. And then they change a little
when you tell them you have over 500 cid in a stock block without grinding on it Shocked

Yes, we've got tons of dyno numbers, Very Happy but that wasn't the subject of this thread. Furthermore, there are some dyno numbers that we keep to ourselves, Cool or only share with our good customers like you. Laughing

I'll start another thread sometime soon and share some numbers.
