WIRING QUESTIONS: Empty WIRING QUESTIONS:

Post  frank13 May 17th 2010, 6:38 pm

Ok so i have the battery mounted in the trunk with a huge cable going to the firewall for the solenoid...I also have a a large cable going toa junction box that splits into 6 positive 8 gauge wires going to relays on the passenger firewall..so i have ALOT of hot wire going to the front of the car.....

The question is can I run all my electric hots from the battery side of the solenoid so i can run much shorter "hots"

I also have a fused Painless switch panel.. Do i still need to run fuses/circuit breakers between the relay and the accessory.

What I am powering:

running items:
water pump
msd
starter
fuel pump
fan

Acces:
Lights
windows

do i need fuses/circuit breakers between the battery and the relay AND the relay to the access?

is 12/14 gauge wire enough to go from the relay to the access? or do i need a heavier gauge

ok , does any have a very very very very clear wiring plan for a racecar with barebones electrics.....

i am using the painless fused 8 switch panel...i have lots of wiring and circuit breakers AND/OR fuses
i just want clean and neat...

batt is in the truck solenoid is on firewall....msd is in the passenger floor area....ignition is a pushbutton on the swithc panel.....i have it all wired now and all works, but am not happy with how it looks,,,,it looks very jumbled....annd wonder if there is a nice clean way to do it.....any ideas

running it from the solenoid is fine from an electricity standpoint.
if you got your fused panel running all your items, no need for a fuse/breaker in between the fused panel and your power source.

regardless of what people seem to think fuses/breakers are there to protect the load, not the wire.
