I am hooking up a disconnect too Bob.

From what I have read you need to run a FUSED wire from your alternator out put to the BATT side of the kill switch. Otherwise the alt will keep feeding power and keep the engine going. I have read anywhere from 8ga to 2ga wire. scratch

save you some trouble and install another starter solenoid somewhere in the front of the car (acts like the battery when it was in the front) and run all of you power wires from the engine, gauges, alternator feed wire, and anything else you power. Then run just one power lead to the battery in the rear with the kill switch in that wire. a 2 gauge wire should be enough but if you are doing a fuel injected setup I would run a 0 gauge. then just ground to the frame and/or cage and again if you are running a fuel injected engine I would ground to the frame/cage AND run another ground wire to the front of the car for a floating ground. redundancy! In a drag car if it's going to be a conventional lead/acid battery that's used, install it so that the battery's lead plates point front to back.

thanks dave.....more questions, how or where should i poke the cable through the firewall? with a grommet? or a bulkhead connector?.... it seems i should run it down the passenger side (in side of course along the rocker)

Bob, I ran mine on the outside, under the car. If anything rubs through, I don't want those sparks/fire inside the car!! It may be fine inside too, I just chose to go outside. I ran a clamp every 12".

Anywhere it goes through metal you should be OK with a grommet, I used a thick piece of hose zip-tied to the cable.

Hope that helps!!

Car is loaded in the trailer right now but when we get it out Friday to race, I will take some pics. Easy to do.

frank i believe the additional solenoid is used to separate the output of the alternator from the original battery terminal. otherwise when you kill the battery the car still runs on with the alternator supplying the juice to the ignition. bobn

so just 0 gauge from alt to battery with a solenoid in the middle with a switch powering it? i thought the solenoid could only be used as a momentary switch

most disconnect switched have seperate smaller lugs for the alt, just make sure they are of sufficient amperage rating. Any solenoid used for continuous operation....make sure its rated for such usage.
