521 ford crate motor

Post  cooter on Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:53 pm

does the 521 Ford Performance crate motor look like a good buy? I always build my own motors so i can pick the parts i want but am courious about this motor. Does anyone see downfalls to this motor in a street truck application?

Cam might be a bit hard on parts but overall it would make a good street/strip motor if matched with the right transmission and rearend

The only problem I see is traction! The guy we bought our 460 crate from had it in a street 4x4 and pulled it out because it was to much!

Ford put a lot of thought into that motor a lot of good parts ( mainly their block) I think it is a good deal.
I copied that motor for my Fairlane and I can't wait to get it on the street.

i cannot believe more people are not giving thier opinions on this motor, i know we have alot of knowledge on this forum. Has anyone bought this motor or knows anyone who has? I am still leaning toward building from scratch but this may be a good option

FRPP 514 crate motor

Its a great motor! Got a friend with one in his Factory 5 Cobra kit car and it screams! I copied the 514 short block for my blower motor using all the Ford parts and its turned out great. I bet Lem Evans on the forum could get you one, and his people give great service. Good luck! Greg blown473

A good friend has one in a '69 Mach 1, with only a little touch up on the exhast ports and a 1050 Dominator. The thing is stupid fast Shocked and reliable. Cool
