My guess

Post  Wheelie58 on September 5th 2010, 7:49 am

Ed,
I would suspect an input shaft related problem since it has no gears....and the physical diameter if the C4 input shaft....leads me to that guess. I have a buddy that has snapped 2 with a small block.

I too would say the input shaft. I ran the C-4's with a C-6 converter and spline adapter for years, would split the adapter atleast once a year.

no more splines in forward drum

Post  Ed501 on September 5th 2010, 10:15 pm

Cracked the forward drum and ripped out the splines. This was the 3rd pass , but was really first pass without ignition problem, boy it wasnt same car. I used a good early c4 drum and it was really tight 3 passes ago. Remember first two passes never got out of converter around 52-5500 rpms, i couldnt keep it under 7000 rpmsthis time and it never let the converter stall slow rpms, so it was making alot more torque and the stall speed footbrake showd it Surprised I hope a good welded one will hold this time., ED

They will handle quite a bit, the stock drums don't last long behind torque............. Laughing

The ones I used were silicon bronzed, I think I got it from Dynamic Racing Transmission, not that expensive, hole already drilled.
