EX514 vs. A460 intake port differences (as cast)

Post  96Mustang460cid on September 5th 2010, 6:01 pm

I know an EX514 intake will bolt onto a set of A460 heads. According to the website, though, they require some port matching to work.

http://www.flowtechnologiesinc.com/products_manifold.php

Does anybody have a picture comparing the differences? How extensive is the porting to get the two ports to match up?

Best I can tell, the EX514 runners are slightly shorter and the intake is slightly shorter than the comparable Trick Flow intake. Does that sound right? Feel free to add other comparison details if you'd like Smile.

FYI, I have Trick Flow A460 heads (18 bolt, as-cast).

Have a good day!

i dont have a tfs intake but i do have an old motorsport and a ex514.the tfs gaskets fit both my intakes the same so i wouldnt think you'd need to do any "trick"port matching for it to work for you.i also have fms A460 heads and not tfs.good luck Smile

The first one of the EX514 manifolds that was ever sold, was bought by Phillip several years ago. I brought the display model home from the PRI show after making some noise about opening a can of whup ass on Birdie if he didn't let me have that manifold. We dynoed with it on Phillip's engine on a Sunday night and had less than stellar results. Went back to the old style TFS A-460 manifold with spacers and I sent the EX514 piece off to have some Brodix Turtles installed by Andy Dittmer. Then Phillip tried it again at Beech Bend and again he switched back to the old style TFS intake. The TFS manifold was torquier and like a tenth quicker. Later on that EX514 manifold was put on e-Bay and sold. So do what you want to do, but don't expect it to be 20- 25 Hp better, cause it ain't.

Flow Technologies has changed the EX manifold 3 times as "running" changes since it's inception.
So who knows what you have without actually comparing it.

All the flange dimensions remained the same as a Ford #M-9424-A460 Motorsport intake.

Guys,

Thanks for your input. I found an older Ford Motorsports intake that should work fine for my application.

Have a good day!

The radius in the corners is tighter in the A 460 than the EX 514 design. You can grind the corners of the EX 514 piece out to match the A 460 in a few minutes.
