Local NAPA or Snap-on / Mac guy should be able to get you one.

Never heard of a 1/2"-24 Question

In 1/2" they normally come -13 (coarse) & -20 (fine)

They do make a 3/8"-24 though

FWIW,....

McMaster Carr is the best place to get any kind of taps or dies. I'm a purchasing agent for an an industrial company by trade and I buy all my speciality tooling from them.

Here's a link,......

Would it be cheaper to take it to a gunsmith?

Taken it to Bass Pro in Springfield, MO at their gun shop, 1 shop here in town, my buddy's gun shop, and even called Remington. They all said if I had a tap they would make a blank to replace the very, very, very load muzzle break. All Remington said was that they used to make a blank for the gun, but it is discontinued and they no longer have the tap for that thread.
