Trouble splitting heater hoses

Post  droppedf100 on Fri 24 Sep - 16:27

Its a 95 f150 with a stock radiator and a stock sepentine set-up from a late model 460 truck. It has a Weiand aluminum water pump, 180 thermostat, 13lbs cap, and a flex fan. Well it blew the heater hoses twice going to the heater core so i put Aeroquip pushlock hoses on it and its been fine. Now last night it blew the hose between the intake and waterpump. I spun it to around 6000 in first and it let go. Split the entire length. The hose is maybe 4 months old. Any ideas?

Is the heater core plugged up or maybe the hoses are on the wrong way and building up pressure? Suspect

I dont think there is a direction for the heater core and it isnt blocked. This has happened on 2 different motors in the same truck. The only thing in common with both set-ups is the water pump. Im thinking either the radiator cap is bad or the Weiand pump puts out possibly too much pressure. Im just glad it happened on the street and not the track No

Fittings...?

Post  Wheelie58 on Sat 25 Sep - 5:42

I seem to recall seeing heater hose "nipple" fittings that are restricted internally. You may have a combo that is pumping too much volume through the circuit. If you wanted to run the "Dick Tracy" investigative course, you could cobble a simple presssure guage into the heater hose system , tape it to the outside of the windshield and go run the piss out of the truck. If you need to limit flow to the heater, just tap the ID of the fitting and make a restrictor to thread inside.
Also, look at the hose. The standard hose sold at normal parts stores is pretty lame. You may want to look at a truck parts store for some heavy duty hose, like a Gates Green Stripe.
Maybe this will help....
Thanks,
Keith
