better core support
Just wanted to know if someone makes a Radiator "core" support that is better then a stock one.
I have a 1987 mustang LX (race car only) and I want to upgrade the core support. It's pretty beat up right now!!
Thanks for your help!

I don't remember the year range, but I do do know that NPD just added the newer style (like 80's/90's I think) mustangs to its parts list.

Re: better core support
Is there a way to reinforce what is there? Maybe some flat iron or angle iron?

I cut ours out of our 81 and just put a tube in between the framerails, had to fab all the mounts for the radiator etc...........not really a bolt in deal.

Re: better core support
Denaro: I got a real nice used one from Todd Wellborn @ prestigemustang.com in Atlanta. I was advised by friends not to use a Reproduction radiator support because of problems with weak welds on the repro stuff. I haven't decided on exactly I'm going to do with mine, so if you decide to have one built or modified let me know and I might get one like it. I need more room between my water pump and radiator fans and I was considering cutting the bottom out of the stock support and making a tube lower that allows the radiator to be moved under the support!

Re: better core support
Team-Z sells one of these if you do not want to or can't make one.
2" square tube ends fit nicely up inside of old core support and butt against the front bumper 'shocks'. It looks wonky in that pic for some reason.

I attached the lower bumper cover to it with some gigantic zip ties.

Added lower rad mounts, trans cooler mounts and a gusset on each side where the bend is. Also made the little top mounts for the radiator.

New radiator position

Trans cooler, radiator and HHR electric fan all mounted.
