SFI spec thickness of engine plate

Post  danev2 on April 13th 2011, 10:46 pm

I was wondering what the engine/trans plate thickness is, for a SFI spec'd plate.
I believe I read somewhere is was 16 ga, (.0598)
But I'm not confident of that.
My CAD design class is continuing and I'm modeling up a real part, and I might be able to have it made on a laser cutter machine.

than ks!!

no sfi spec if an auto , maybe wrong butwith a sfi 1.1 or 1.2 clutch and a sfi 6.1 or a 6.2 shield is .100" mild steel is the mid plate spec

I've made a digital model of a manual trans clutch plate.
took a factory 460 plate, simplified all the extra holes and features etc.
and made a drawing of it in Unigraphics NX 6.0
taking a 2 week evening class for NX.

I'll make the model 0.100 inch thick. and I hope to find a good sheet metal shop here in portland OR
to have them made.
thanks for the help!!

FYI, laser or plasma will probably be less than costly than Waterjet. Be prepared for sticker shock on a low volume run Smile.

Having the knowledge, access, and desire to model your parts will open up a world of possibilities! 2'x4 CNC plasma tables are getting very economical for DIY people.

Have a good day!

Some time back I bought a block plate someone had made. I think they used a 400 as a templete as I had to open up the hole for the crank a little bit. The holes for the starter were half a hole off too. I wonder if the lakewood bellhousing has them moved vs. the stock bellhousing. I'd post up a picture. but still trying to figure out how.

I seem ot recall the lakewood block plate was .100", same as the other poster said.
