The mighty 300 six. If it were a dodge slant 6,it would be the leaning tower of power.

Those "big block" 300's are some pretty tough engines. I'm really looking forward to hearing the results from your trip to the track this weekend.
Check this out, pretty neat article

Re: got my 1962 home
i have seen that , pretty cool, i though about a 347 or 408 but those are everywhere, maybe a mp t70 next year, i would have to yank pistons and stuff..right now i just want to enjoy it..last time out the previous owner ran a 9.0 1/8 mile..with the issues it had, it would not go past 5k rpm, , and the throttle was only about 1/4 way open, it has a billet 2 piece lokar gas pedal, and cable(piece of shit) i fixed that. i played with it in the drive and hit 6500 easy.if it goes a true 13.00 1/4 mile..ill be happy anything faster is that much better61coon wrote:Those "big block" 300's are some pretty tough engines. 6 cylinder are cool and different. An old neighbor of mine had a early 60s Chevy 2 with a worked over 250 in it, it sounded wild and ran pretty damn good for what it was.

Re: got my 1962 home
not to bad, that was the first time in 6 years ive been down track, first pass 2.05 60ft--14.90 1/4 mile@86mph..left line and like a dork forgot to put tranny back in 1st gear..2nd pass , pos shifter , if your hand is touching it it will go to 2nd gear..but got better 2.0 60ft---14.49 @89...3rd pass i forced my self not to touch the shifter till its was time to shift, and i did not succeed..hit 2nd about 4000 rpm,,and then bumped it back into 1st and stood on it..went 14.024@89mph with a 1.83 60ft...then noticed my gas pedal is bent and hitting the floor none of the pass was full throttle..so not bad, once bugs are worked out and seat time i think 12.50s are in it, and get a smaller carb, the 800 is just to dam big

Re: got my 1962 home
had a bad vibration , so i tore motor done, taking it to machine shop..i found a broken timing gear but car still ran, i thought the timing was acting funny when i was setting timing..and it has the wrong pistons in it, the pistons that are in it are 240 pistons and are .230 in the hole..for a whooping my binding 7-1 compression..cam starts pulling at 3000 and stops at 6000..so if i put more cam in it and some 351w pistons to get the compression up, it should run pretty dam good for a 6 banger

Re: got my 1962 home
I did one several years ago with 351 hyper kieth blacks with .100 dome and a ported 240 head. It was hard on the stock rod brgs but it was a power house. turned it 7000-7200 every run.

I'm sure it will run that, I was amazed at the power the engine we did made.

Re: got my 1962 home
how did that work ? always wondered how a dome on a 351w will fit the inline head cause of the valve angle compared to the dome angleIDT-572 wrote:I did one several years ago with 351 hyper kieth blacks with .100 dome and a ported 240 head. I can't remember the exact dome height, but the volume was 5 cc and It had plenty of valve to piston clearance with a .650 lift cam and dur @ .050 around 260 on a 104 sep Trying to remember specs off the top of my head. but there close.

Re: got my 1962 home
dont want to spend that much , not trying to sit the world on fire, looks like dome top 351w pistons will work ..it will be between 11.5--12 compression depe nding on my cc of head mand not sure if deck has been cut..at a bare min 11.5 compared to the 7-1 it is now..heck that probally close to at least 50-75 hp..i hopedfree383 wrote:You can always get some custom slugs made.
