built a low dollar 302 for the falcon, stock 1992 lower end 302, with some RHS heads, tfs satge 2 cam, knock off rpm intake.., first pass distributor moved all the way around..ran 18.23..fixed that, ran again, did same thing..18.38 (1/4 mile) checked fuel bowls..lol they was bone dry, got that set, the track was nice enough to let me sneak a pass in with a different class that was running 1/8 mile, i got exceeded and forgot to put tranny back in low gear after burn out so i left in 2nd gear did a 1.89 60ft time and ran a 8.12 1/8 mile...first round was just a guess so i dialed a 12.00 and ran a 12.38 1/4 mile and 7.77 1/8 mile..with a 1.76 60ft time..still tons of tuning to do, carb went from the box to my motor and set idle and went racing, got to play with shift points, still has 1962 factory suspension on it to

i think once i get carb dialed in and shift point down and see what cars wants etc..it will run 11.80 range, i have under $1000 in the whole motor, not even that if you dont count the heads that i have had for 7 years ..these runs are on 26x6 inch slicks

This kind of build you can go round after round with an have the most fun with.

What size carb are you running?

it's a 750 holley DP, ..little big but its what i have..it belongs to a buddy, the car weighs 2414 lbs with 8 gallons of fuel , 2700 with me in it

dropped the jets from 71--80 to 66--75, see what happens, i put a 1 inch spacer on it and went around the block..it will not take the trottle with the spacer on..huge bog..take it off and it goes back to normal, very responsive

i went to the track tonight, tried just jet changes only tonight..went from small to big..ended up with what it came from holley with 71--80, tried the t brake once, ran the same et and 60ft as footbrake ..tried 1 pass shifting at 7000, ran the exact same et as it did at 6500, next time at tnt ill try 5500 to 6300 shift point and different timing, right now its at 38, still not to bad for a car with original 1962 suspension, last week ran best of 12.38..ran 12.39 tonight

few times a year, im about 1.5 hrs away from mokan and 40 mintues from tulsa

did more testing today, still has a nasty dead spot at hit of throttle, going to get some different size squirters and check my gap on accelerator pump, but keep shift rpm at 6500, back timing down 2 degree from 38 to 36 and it went faster..took another 2 out and , its at 34 now ,ran 12.25, picked up 0.13 and almost 1 mph

i can pick up a good 1/2 if it had good suspension, it just dont have any squat in the rear or front end travel, going to get some front spring and shock and rear, and try a few different carb spacers

Make sure the control arms and the spring perches are nice and loose . Loosen up the advance in the dist.. That will surprise you ,and its cheap.!

need to get a good distributor , the one i have as like 50 bucks brand new..richporter from orilleys..its really cheap built , its loose..cap kinda flops around..

I ran a rebuilt in my old cleveland ..Loosening up the advance springs helped as much as anything ..

i had a set of spring , i was putting them in and dropped one..it went way of the doo doo bird..so it has 1 heavy and one light..really need a good msd or a recuved stock one, want one of the msd dital e dial dizzy..just turn a dial under the cap and its ready

i put a 1 inch sparer on it, as you know, and got some different sized nozzles and started changing, mixing this and that,, till i came up with where it is now, there is absolute 0 bog..stumble , i can hit the throttle fast as i can and it takes it..totally different sounding motor, it had 28 in front and 31 in back, ended up with 35 in front and back with the 1 inch spacer, and changed the jets to 73-85 from 71-80, im going racing tomorrow i will post the results..thanks for the help
