Biggest enclosed trailer you guys tow with 2013 F150?
Guys
What's the biggest trailer you guys tow with a 2103 F150? Curious as to enclosed trailers...
I have an 18' open trailer now and it's not big enough to put a golf cart or 4 wheeler across the front to bring to the track. Was looking at a 22' open trailer by Diamond C but will be moving soon and will have room to store an enclosed deal so I'm looking at that route...

F150 7500 tow capacity. 3500lb car 1500lb trailer.... 5k. Its not the ability of the engine to move the weight its the ability of the vehicle to control the weight. The f150 brakes are stressed pretty well dealing with what you've got. You end up with the trailer driving the truck.

With electric brakes I wouldn't go over 20' enclosed with a 150 I have a 8x24 my F150 will pull it fine but stopping is a different story.

I towed my 28ft enclosed with a 2003 f150. It worked but it was scary. As stated the trailer ends up moving the truck around. But to answer your question I'd stay away from anything over 24 ft. At 24 I think you'll be ok as long as you are careful. Sway control and a good brake controller is mandatory

It would have a lot too do with where you would be traveling to and from,Open road NO hills, etc. I wouldn't want to pull a 24' enclosed through the mountains w/anything less than HD F250,and F350 would be better yet,But,if you live in flat country and plenty of stopping distance,HD F150 could do the job IF you are experienced w/Towing .

I pull a 20 ft loaded with carpentry tools with my 2010 xl 4.6 2wd it does strain on hills but overall I am comfortable with how it works

Wheelbase is a factor too, a reg cab sb is no where as capable of a puller as a crew cab long box, too short the tail will wag the dog. I pull 30' over 10K with my F250 with no problems wind, mountains or otherwise, prior I had a 4dr 1/2 ton sb 18' trailer, car, tools , passengers, mountains no problems, I would be a little concerned over 24' enclosed ...the stabilizer bars make a big difference in keeping the ride height and suspension working properly, and also help to reduce the waggle.

What motor and gear ratio? According to Fords tow data, set up with max tow and the Eco boost, max tow is 11,700lbs.

all I can say about this is If your trailor is pushing you then you have no Idea of how the load is to be on the trailer,,, if it is pushing you your load is to far forward....and you need to learn how to properly load a trailer....

Re: Biggest enclosed trailer you guys tow with 2013 F150?
It's the crewcab longbed 4x4, 5.0 with 3.55 gears. 7500 max tow weight. The prices on these longer open trailers are damn near the price of an enclosed deal. And I can only find a 22' open trailer. Nothing longer short of having it custom built. No desire for a F250 either right now, diesel or gas...
A 24' enclosed may fit the bill. Have to see what those weigh though.
I'd be using a weight distribution system with sway control for sure as well...

One thing I noticed is that there is a 1500 lbs swing in tow rating if the truck had the 3.73 gears... It jumps up to 9100 lbs max...
So obviously the ability of the truck to move the weight is a bigger factor than the trucks ability to stop it...

That higher gear ratio works in reverse as a more effective engine brake during deceleration.

I towed my 28ft with an 11 f150. As said just don't go flying around blind curves and anticipate stopping early. I have recently bought a f250 and had the chance to weigh everything. Crewcab 4x4 with the trailer hooked up was 7420lbs and then pulled the trailer on the scales and it was 9560lbs with 3000lb car and a golf cart in there. Don't think I'll be without at least a 3/4 ton. The ripple in the middle of the F150 seat is still there.

24' with the load leveling hitch wont be a problem. I used a 02 crew 4x4 with the little short bed,5.4 and 3.55 gear. If its in your budget look at featherlite ot atc aluminum trailers, more $$ but very much worth it and hold value better than any trailer. Less weight than steel trailer is also a plus for you too!

Re: Biggest enclosed trailer you guys tow with 2013 F150?
I'm dragging this back up.
Thoughts on towing a 28 footer? Seriously looking at doing this. Would be absolutely towing it with a weight distributing hitch, sway bar, etc... Looking at a 28' Pace American, 4 foot tongue, 7' inside height, 5200lbs torsion axles, 16"wheels, etc...
Would be towing it with either my 2013 F150, 5.0, 4x4, 3.55 gears, 157" wheelbase truck (7500lbs max tow rating) or with the wife's 2014 F150, EcoBoost, 4x4, 3.55 gears, 145" wheelbase truck (9500lbs max tow rating).
Thoughts and opinions please...

I just towed my 28fter (with AC, cabinets, tool box, generator etc. 2 hours into Ill. and back on both interstate and 2 lanes. with my 11 F150Eb. it does have the 3.73 gears, but the 14's with 3.55's are rated the same. Mine had the off road package with a tow of 10,700. After towing it home empty when I purchased it, I upgraded the tires to E rated to get a stiffer sidewall and got sway bars installed. These are must haves IMHO. I also added firestone air bags just to help keep it level and a ride rite wireless compressor system (I LOVE this btw). I use my truck to tow my 28ft 5er camper and my 28ft race trailer.
Believe it or not, I feel the trailer more when empty. When loaded, I ALMOST forget its back there lol.

IMO
Time to upgrade to a Super Duty F250 or F350
My race car and ATV in my 28' trailer and there's not much room left.

I dont' disagree with you. I would have an SD but won't pay what they are trying to get out of one with 150k miles and can't afford a 50k diesel lol. I will say that with both trailers, my truck will stop with them fully loaded (had to panic stop once so far) but, I am not towing over loaded either.
And yea, with my golf cart and truck, my 28ft trailer is full.
Re: Biggest enclosed trailer you guys tow with 2013 F150?
If your just towing a few times a years you can get by with the 150 but it will beat up the truck IMO
I'd look for a gas 250 or 350 the brakes and suspension are a lot heavier and the truck will last

Not my own but, I have picked-up and delivered all kinds of vehicles all over the country for Ford Racing in a 42 foot goose-neck trailer and an older F350 with a 7.3 diesel. Better than any "tag along" I have ever used.
After "911" happened, they would not allow me across the Hoover Dam , though. Had to go around the Bullhead City way.

Re: Biggest enclosed trailer you guys tow with 2013 F150?
I'm regretting trading in my 2wd diesel when I got this F150. They didn't give me much for it either. I should've kept it and let it sit around just to use as a tow vehicle.
I'll just be using this to tow a few times a year. It'll primarily be used by the wife to drag her company's supplies around when she does some large projects once/twice a year and to store it all. I may use it for a long track trip once/twice a year too.
Thanks for the comments guys. I think we'll be fine. And I'm already looking for another 7.3 to buy...

Whatever you do, be sure to have a good trailer brake controller and make sure it is set correctly for every different load you haul.
