In some areas, there are issues relating to vehicle history, this directly relates to the companies like Carfax which the history is directly related to depreciation if an incident occurs, hence the insurance companies also have a market value they must uphold so they are faced with a choice either replace the vehicle, or fix it and settle on the inherent repaired depreciated value...AKA I had a un-repaired (collectable) vehicle which should appreciate not depreciate and I do not want a repaired car which is worth less, I want the car replaced with a car equal to the car I purchased including the value before the incident, or I want the value of the depreciation as a settlement for the incident.

Read your policy. I don't know the circumstances of your accident, but it is either repairable or totaled. If totaled you can buy it back for salvage value or let it go to the crusher. If they fix it, it should be repaired to pre-accident condition. If your car was insured through a Lloyd's policy (which I'm sure it isn't) then you have a declared value in the event you total it or it gets stolen. Collision coverage would be determined by the policy and state laws.

A new 2015 platinum edition F150 4x4 has a sticker price of $78,000 Canadian here plus the 15% tax... F- that. A new bare bones reg cab diesel F250 4x4 is $40K. I honestly don't know how people afford new trucks/cars, a new camper, a big mortage and a couple kids. My wife and I do ok, we have 3 kids and we can't afford a new truck - I simply couldn't make the payments....My buddy's bust my balls about my drag car and what I spent on it in the last 4-5yrs...There is no payments on that puppy, doesn't cost me a red penny unless I use it. I spent a lot of late nights in my garage working on my buddy's diesel trucks to pay for it. If I didn't feel like taking on a job, I turned it away....Hard to do that with a $600-800 a month truck payment to be made for 5-7yrs. I'm building a 2005 F250 2wd now, 6.0L to 02 7.3L conversion. I'm into the whole deal for $2500 so far and another $500 would have it on the road. Painted and done I expect to have $8000 into it and it will be a nice rig with no payments and no EGR shit.

When a blue hair hit me in my F150, and after the repairs were complete, I called her insurance company about diminished value. They sent an adjuster out to look over the truck to try and pick it apart for issues only there were none because thanks to Poppa Bear, I have an addiction to keeping stuff pretty nice. They called and asked if I'd accept and additional $1800 over and above repairs and rental car etc. Don't know if that's what y'all were referring too or not? Bought it new, drove it till 75k miles, and then traded it on my F250. They even gave me KBB for the F150.
