I think some of the big HP boosted cars are running systems that can also curve and play with timing on individual cylinders to even out the engine? I don't keep up with it though.

Here's a Mopar guy who is experimenting:

Andy Finkbeiner is pretty sharp.

It seems the biggest hurdle is tying in to the ignition firing order to tell which cyl to fire.
Andy modified the distributor.
Controlling the spark curve is evidently done in a computer.

I have a street-rod customer with a 501 big block Ford using L92 GM truck coils and the MSD system for a carbureted LS engine.
He bolted an LS shutter wheel to the damper and fixed a pick-up behibd his pulleys and it works great.

I have 8 LS coils on my HPefi. If you google it there is some backyard methods out there from before the msd units were available.

Below is the msd controller. You can buy a cam sensor from Price Motorsports and use a MSD crank trigger setup. I am not familiar with the msd unit but there are different types of crank trigger sensors so I would check with MSD for requirements in that department. I got my coils at Pull A Part from a Yukon.
