intake recommendation
hello i am building a low buck 460 in my 79 bronco. i installed a good set of 69 heads with a mild clean up and a good back cut valve job on a stock bottom end. i am using a mild 214-224 cam on a 112 c/L. 512 lift on the intake and a 538 on exhaust. i was going to use my 69 cast iron intake or has anyone used a stock cj intake on a mild 4x4? if so what would you prefer?

Are those heads CJ intake port size or passenger car intake port size ...?
Re: intake recommendation
the heads are standard port heads 1968 heads. i know that back in the day the marine motors had this set up. not sure if it will kill bottom end in this application

Re: intake recommendation
The "SCJ" ( iron Holley) WILL make more power than the '69 intake. Ford did that on their marine 460s despite the obvious port mismatch. They also touted the merits in the old "MuscleParts" book. 25 or so HP over the "regular 4V intake. I am not sure about the "CJ" ( Quadra Jet) style. I have both , but am only using the Holley version. The trouble is the prices have been on the rise lately for some stupid reason.

Re: intake recommendation
Performer RPM is the best street manifold IMO if you can get one right now.

Re: intake recommendation
I would say Performer RPM if you plan on racing around ... But being a truck and based on your specs a normal Performer will do you well IMO.

Re: intake recommendation
thanks for the replies guys. i now the old stock 69 intake will be the best maniflod for torque under 3000 rpms. just wondering about using my cj intake and wanted some one to chime in that actually used a cst iron cj intake on a regular small port head in a truck or 4x4 in a MILD application. as things is i am probably going to install it and will post back when i am taking it for a drive after the cam break in!!

Re: intake recommendation
The factory intake will likely do all you need . Not Big block but I have done a few 351 Clevelands with factory cast intakes , they actually do ok . I'm not talking all up HP but a nice driver .

I did , third reply. More bottom end power that the aftermarket aluminum manifolds AND the small port '69 too.

Re: intake recommendation
just letting every one know that the bronco works like a charm! the old cj intake works great with this combo. going to look for a holley spread bore carburator. running a adapter plate and a 625 carter carb for now

Why not find a good QuadraJet like that intake was designed to use ...?
Re: intake recommendation
You get the same results bolting a 4v Cleveland intake on a 2V engine.gt350hr wrote:jm wrote:thanks for the replies guys. i now the old stock 69 intake will be the best maniflod for torque under 3000 rpms. just wondering about using my cj intake and wanted some one to chime in that actually used a cst iron cj intake on a regular small port head in a truck or 4x4 in a MILD application. as things is i am probably going to install it and will post back when i am taking it for a drive after the cam break in!!
