Got a mechanical on the shelf from Cam Research….. didn’t feel like dumping money into the D3’s
This Crower is just a intermediate, until I get some extra cabbage to buy a set of aluminum heads.
I’m being cheap!

Well got some bad news from the machine shop, one of the D3 heads has 2 seat/chamber cracks, looks like I need to figure out a plan B……
Eddy’s?
TFS Streets?
Or try another round with a different set of Iron paper weights?

Normally I would say TFS Streets 10 times out of 10, but dang, they are scarce.
Edelbrock seem to be about the only ones available new. I'm not a huge fan of them which is why I ended up with SCJ's.
But with any of them, you are looking at heads, rockers, guide plates, pushrods, etc.
Maybe just find another D3 to replace the cracked one.

Re: Run what ya got…….
Picking up the block Saturday.
Still on the hunt for some heads.
Will probably end up with Edelbrocks as the TFS street seem to be out of production.
That is unless I run into a deal on something.
Going to assemble the short block once I get my Altered back together and running. Will probably be a few months.

Re: Run what ya got…….
Well…… found a set of. D3’s local that have been “rebuilt”, just stock stuff.
Going to swap springs and do a little bowl blending and cut the guides down and add some seals.
Sticking with stock rockers and 972-16 comp springs and retainers.
Should have about 10.4:1 compression

Crower kept pushing the cam delivery off, so I ordered a bullet hyd flat tappet
240 250 .553 .553 on a 108
Also going to drop off the heads to get a clean up cut and the guides cut for seals this weekend.

No bullet doesn’t have “in stock” cams everything is custom ground, 4-6 week wait.

^ OK, I did not know if they had any cores.
I was going to pass on a NOS cam I saw listed for 120 bucks.
It's 235/240 .545"/.545" 108 before someone snags it. I don't see many cams available like that very often.

Re: Run what ya got…….
Sounds like a good plan, you can do any porting you want to do, get any necessary machine work done (valve job guides clean up mill) and see what it does with them and then you can tell us just how much power the Eddy heads are worth, when you get them. Who knows it may be so much fun you won't see the need for them.dfree383 wrote:Build is entering the budget evaluation point……..
Not going to “modify” the D3’s for larger valves and adjustable valve train. Just can justify the $$ in for the return. But they will get it running for future upgrades.
Just going to spring them and do a valve job and run stock rockers with a hydraulic FT cam “for now”
Taking the block out in a few weeks to hone fit the pistons, line home and deck the block, and get the crank balanced, Bob weight came up to 2258. Like stated heads will get a valve job and surfaced.
Will do a update on this in the future probably to TFS streets or Eddy’s, the solid cam I have and a bigger induction system, it would be cool to see how much bang for the buck you get from th top end.
