Those Comp 972 springs show on the computer 124 on the seat at 1.8", coil bind at 1.195" and I agree you are too close to coil bind with the Howard's Camshaft.

It's interesting the Old CompCams catalog lists 1.150" for coil bind on that spring. I don't know if you checked yours but, just an idea.




Could .050" higher keepers help, if the heads are not finished?

There's almost nothing out there right now for 460 cams in medium HFT range that you looking for, especially at that lift.

^ Dang Dave, that Howard's Camshaft did not hardly make it a day after I linked it. It was on my watch list a few month's I believe.

That's why I did not link that 120 dollar NOS deal to give you a shot at it, and it did not last very long either. It was a Sig Erson JB200 same as the Road Rage Version but, without the 5 degree's advance ground in.

I had saved that Howards Camshaft on a watch list in case somebody was after one also.

It never came up on a EBay 460 Ford Camshaft search and I had stumbled on it by accident looking at other cams.

Also for some reason the price changed from 258 to 274 dollars after it went out of stock.

Another member here putting a 460 in a Fox body had that same cam on order with Summit or Jegs for a few months when I found the last one hiding at Competition Products.

CP is showing another one in stock now though, for $255

Ended up grabbing the first Howard’s cam mentioned above…… timing events are a little off and it’s probably going to be a turd….. but at least it will have a cam…

Since Covid almost all the good BBF parts have been slim, like name brand aluminum heads, high rise intakes, most HP cams.

Yeah got the 972-16’s going on the heads

They are supposed to be back from the machine shop in the next few days and I’m going to get started on assembly of this turd!

Making some progress, got the heads back and painted them and the block yesterday. Got to get some mics and dial bore out to do some measuring and file fit some rings this week.

Bullet cam I ordered 6 months ago finally showed up, now I have a cam I feel comfortable with and like the specs on.

Might be willing to sell these other cams is someone needs one for their build and can’t find anything.
