Glide Leak Empty Glide Leak

Post  valleydawg January 18th 2010, 2:59 pm

I had a very small drip from my pan. Mainly just when the car was hot and I would see it on the floor of my trailer. So the other day I just checked the bolts and tighten them just a bit and now I have the worst leak you have ever seen. Anyway I plan to put on a new gasket to see if it will correct the issue. Should have just left well enough along Smile !

I don't like the cork gaskets so I stay away from them. I don't know what you had but if your buying something different keep in mind that the rubber gaskets hold up better. Also I have seen some people put some silicon on the gaskets and let it dry completely before putting it on the tranny. I don't do that but I have a very thick billet railed pan to help with the seal.

It is a cast pan. I have a couple of rubber gaskets on the way. Thanks

I don't recall if there is an actual torque spec for the pan, but if there is I would follow it. Too tight is almost as bad as too loose.

To tight is bad...I know that for sure!

I don't use any torque specs other than using a 1/4 inch rachet and tightening until "snug".

Use Accopac or Farpak gaskets and no sealer. Torque to 95 in/lbs. Retorque after some use. If you want to be slick about things dab a thin coat of trans assembly gel lube on each side of the gasket. It'll seal up fine. Some cast pans I've seen have been porous so watch for that. Also watch for a leak source above the pan rail; cooler line fittings/etc. Those can run down and make it look like a leaky pan!
