SCJ's with non-SCJ intake/headers? Empty SCJ's with non-SCJ intake/headers?

Post  YellowStangDuane January 4th 2011, 10:54 pm

I've got a set of Kaase SCJ's, but still have a regular Stealth, and very old Tubular Automotive headers (69 Mustang) Can the intake be opened up to fit the new heads, and will the headers work? I'm not looking for max HP, maybe around 450hp....

i'm not sure about the intake but if your headers are for std. heads, they may not have much surface to seal on the top of the port.the scj's ports are taller than std.d0ve's etc. if all your after is 450hp use d0ve's and sell the scj's.IMO Very Happy

The intake won't work, the ports in the heads are to big to seal, need to get the SCJ version.

To further explain what Dave has said ... the top of the 8012 STEALTH head flange area is scalloped for the smaller ports; the 8021 Stealth is not
Other brand regular size port intake manifolds usually don't have this sealing problem of the Weiand Stealth manifolds.

To explain, new headers are expensive for these cars, and someday I hope to get rid of the shock towers. It seems the ones for it are restrictive, don't know if they are or not. I don't want to buy new ones twice. My old heads have seen better days, and I already have these. Right now it's a bracket car running 7.20's(1/Cool, I don't think that's even 400hp and the driver is comfortable with it. In a couple of years I will step it up when my daughter isn't driving it. But now I know they won't work, so back on the shelves!

Maybe Jon Thee makes some flanges with stubs on them. You could weld them to your old headers.

That's more of my problems, I bought these more than 20 years ago, and they are about trash. I don't think they would survive any welding. FPA makes a nice shorty, 1 3/4" but they are $550.00! I didn't want to buy these, and when (more like "IF") I get rid of the towers do something else. The guy at FPA says a guy has 590hp with those headers, but was that dynoed with a different set? I like the one piece design, but can they flow? I just don't think shock tower headers can flow too good.
