I am pleased with it, it is running what I was shooting for when I built it. I might can get it to the 6.0s going to try a set of Hoosier 31x14 that Rick has to see how it hooks with them. My M/T 31x10.5 w side walls are beginning to start getting small weather cracks in them so about time to retire them and need to get my front tires balanced also. It gets a little balancey after the 1/8 you can see in the vids the camera gets a little shake.

The air Friday evening was terrible and the water grains was 124 when I checked...I thought your truck ran well for the conditions.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
It will be next month before I am able to go back to the track my next weekend off I got to carry my wife up to Douglasville Ga. to see her sister. She has cancer and not doing good so we going to see her the next weekend I have off. Then the next weekend I have off got to carry the youth from church to Macon for a youth trip. So I got a month to do some small changes to it going to try the 31x14 that Rick has if the 60' don't come down I going to put a 4.86 gear back in it. I am well pleased with it with the new combo with only 6 runs on it just need to get the 60' time down a little more.

Jim, Do you know what your trap rpm's were on the 6.19 pass...versus where you'd like them to be?

I ask because your gearing choice will depend a LOT on the rollout of your slicks. I've had 4.29's, then 4.86's and now 4.57 gears in my car. With each gear change, the difference in my 60' times was pretty much non-existant. While the launch felt much more violent with the 4.86's, my 60' times did not improve, but the e.t's were about .01 to .02 quicker. Since I need this car to be consistent, I went to the 4.57's....Same launch every time now, but only trapping at 6200 in the 1/8 mi. That's ok by me because the car now stacks e.t.'s like poker chips.
BTW, this is a 514 with home ported A429's and a 'glide. Tires are 31.5 x 14.5W Hoosiers. Switching from 32 x 16 Goodyears made a HUGE change in this car, especially calming the launch.
I guess that's just a long winded way of suggesting that you choose your gears AFTER you have the tires you want.

I been thinking I am going to try the 31x14 plus put my strut frontend under it then see how it does before I buy new gears.

Kim I am going ahead and taking the plunge and swapping the frontend out and putting a Mazda RX-7 frontend under it. Right now it just to hot to run it July and August is the hottest months here which should give me enough time by October to have it ready. I still have time for some tnt for it gets to cold here in Jan. I got about everything bought to do it except for a couple small things get the front under it and do some TNT before I decide on if I want to change gears or not. So in about a week it will go under the knife again should be under 3000 with me in it going to take it to work and scale it out before I start cutting getting the front and rear weight then carrying back after the swap to see what it will be after the frontend is under it.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
Cool. The weight thing will be huge, especially on a big block Ranger. I raced one for years. I had that one pared down to 2700 with me in the seat, but it was still 58% on the nose. That made launch tuning a little trickier...and the lightweight, nose heavy heap liked to get loose in high gear. Put 'er on a diet and you'll have a 5 second truck pretty easily. I ran in the 5.80's with a pump gas A429 headed 514.

I got the 31x14 Hoosier mounted today and put on the truck if they was any wider they wouldn't have fit.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
frontend done as far as the swap goes just ordered a new header kit to make new headers they will be 2 1/8'' with 4'' collectors out the fenders and waiting on my tubing to come in for the steering column. It will be 2 weeks before the Doc will let me do any lifting or go back to work so that will put a hold on things right now.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
I got some goodies in today now time to get to building the headers, I got my full face paint mask out today and did some cutting on my old headers to get the flanges off. The Doc said no welding because the smoke would irritate my eye and might cause it to get infected only bad thing my paint mask will not fit under my welding helmet so I just get things ready to weld. I might can get the tubes tack together and get them ready to weld. The flanges needs opening up some to get the 2 1/8 tubes in them and not restrict exhaust flow plus they needed opening up on top to match the heads. The flanges is standard production head flanges which the top covers the exhaust port about 1/8'' I have to finish clearness on 3 ports on the drivers side to have it ready to start the new headers. Then I get the other side tomorrow maybe just can't wear the mask very long sweet in my eye burns like crazy but I got to keep all the dust out of it slow process but better than sitting in the house bored.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
Well managed to get 3 pipes on the driver side today finish the other one Monday I forgot how much it is a pain in the rear to build headers to get them to exit right. Took about all day to get flanges opened up and the 3 pipes on but it will be worth it to cut the noise level down in the cab a little

Looks likea good start Jim. Are you going to put some type of heat shield between the headers and master cylinder?

Got the driver's done all I need to do is add the e-vac tube got to pick one up tomorrow. Now it time to copy it for the other side might get started on it tomorrow if the Doc don't let me go back to work when I go in the morning for a check up.

Re: Jim's Little 460 AND 2000 RANGER
Finished the headers today all I need to do is add the evac tub on the driver side I got to pull it to finish the steering column bracket and put a cover plate over the hole in the firewall will add it then and paint them.
