Still a good idea to get a SFI approved one.

I'm scared to put the stock one on mine even just for the break in. I have seen two BBF's blow up on the dyno (not in person) because they put the stock one on just temporarily. affraid

In a few weeks I will be able to start making pretty good deals on tranny stuff but not at this time.

speaking of flex plates, whats the limit you would use this one for? I have a new one of these but never considered running it in a race engine...

Whichever SFI wheel that you choose....pay particular attention to the ring gear attachment (welds) and make them part of your regular maintenance inspection. I have experienced failed ring gear welds, and know other racers who have recently had ring gears come apart. One caused a crash when the ring gear exploded, it cut the trans cooler lines at the frame rail and pumped ATF under the guys tires in high gear.
Dan-o has a customer that had one blow apart on a BBF/Glide deal last year too.
One of the manufacturers that I discussed this with noted that many failures of this nature happened on flexplates that had exceeded their 3-year SFI date and felt it was due to fatigue.
I am watching mine much closer, now.
Just things to consider...

In my opinion...no.
More in the 850 to 1150 HP applications. At least that is where I have heard of the failures.
My earlier 700 (or so) HP deal never had any issues....even with stock flexplates before the SFI mandates.
Still a good idea to use a good quality part and inspect it regularly.

What about in a jet boat

Post  CP598 on May 3rd 2011, 8:34 am

Lem, or anyone else with experience in jet boats. Is there the same concern with the flexplate in this application, the reason I ask is there is no torque converter bolted to it.

Thanks.
