I know we are not up there with your cubic inches but our little sb turd is wet sump with a peterson external pump and a vacuum pump.

I'm not running one. When Bob dyno'd it, he didn't seal off the breathers and it still pulled vacuum, so I'm thinking it will do quite well with the sealed valve covers.

i was'nt sure,i've never ran a drysump.if you dont need a vac pump with a drysump then thats a plus on weight and $$ too.another + for the drysump.

Bob did a great job shoe horning. It was a tight fit, and he sized it up from 800 miles away.

Post  David Willingham September 13th 2011, 9:02 am

My 641 made 7" at idle, 1-2" at 7500 on methanol with only the drysump. When we hooked up the dyno room vacuum pump, it went to 21" at idle and 18" at 7500. It picked up 18 hp. I will also say that my engine made 1134 hp the day before with no vacuum because of a severe leak. We tracked down the leak, fixed it and started the engine. Vacuum came up to 7" at idle. On the first hit that day with no other changes, it made 1160 hp. So it was either sealed up better after the first day of running or the drysump pulling that little bit of vacuum helped it. I don't know. Probably a little of both.
