Reading coated rod bearings
I pulled my engine yesterday and just wanted to see how the bearings are holding up. Now this engine has 6 300' runs on it (a pull truck) 528 ci steel rod motor A460 block the mains are not coated they look good, but my question is on the rod bearings they are coated and #7 and #5 have wear that has gone past the coating. On # 7 it is at a point where you can just start to see some silver over maybe 3/8 of the bearing and # 5 maybe a 1/8 of the bearing near where the upper and lower meet. In saying that the rest of the bearings are all (black coating yet) and I am wondering if once you get through the coating like I am describing if I will be looking at trouble down the road? Thanks Greg

If you are just seeing ware on the coating, IMO you are OK. But ,maybe a expert will chime in

At last years winter tech seminar Adney had a set of used coated rod bearings on display and I don't believe there wasy ANY wear on them.....atleast not through the coating.
