How Much Clearance Above Carb Vent Tubes ?
Without going to a 5" or 6" cowl hood HO Fibertrends has a nice hood that will
give me 1/2 clearance above the vent tubes..He said he has seen fast cars run
with less..The vent tubes are 1-1/2 inch above the carb..His hood will give 1/2
above vent tubes..Anybody know about what clearance i can get away with ??

What im asking is will 1/2 clearance between the top of vent tubes & cowl hood be enough ?

I understand the question.....1/2" is too iffy for me........just put the 90* deals on there and the issue is resolved.
Re: How Much Clearance Above Carb Vent Tubes ?

Re: How Much Clearance Above Carb Vent Tubes ?
Many many years ago when I was a boy.....
I had a 452" FE in the 58, sidewinder intake with a big funnel adapter and a 1050 Dominator.
It was damn near rubbing the bottom of a nice steel hood.
At the prodding of my pals, I cut a hole in the hood and installed a state of the art 7" snorkel scoop.
It ran exactly as it did before I ruined the hood.
35 years and 3 or 4 hoods/scoops later, I have determined that having a good sealed outside air intake (not pulling air from engine compartment) makes the car follow the changes seen in my weather station and ET prediction software.
Bigger engines with bigger carbs may like larger clearances.
1/2" above the vent tubes would be a minimum. Lem's 90 degree plug boot trick is a solid deal.
Just my opinion....
