Since rocker arms seem to be non-existent I was thinking about building a set out of 6Al-4V titanium. I may look for a good block and start on a 557" as a side project. Just another hole to throw money down LOL!!!

I have a small 4 axis CNC mill that needs some love, and the rocker arm project would give it something meaningful to do. I literally buy tons of steel through work, so I get a good deal when I buy titanium through work. It's not too bad to work with, reminds me of 410 stainless.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rich has a set laying around in a box on a shelf that he forgot about Wink If he doesn't have a set would bet he has atleast an intake and exhaust to measure off from with imput on any thing that could be improved.

He had a couple of sets of Jesels there. Easy enough to work off of their design. I'd like to draw them up in Solidworks, so I can see the weight difference and also run a fatigue simulation on them. I didn't like the roller bearings in them either.

if you have the time and access to the equipment it would be cool to make a set.

No problem with equipment access. The rocker arms would be a perfect job for my mill, just need to get it plumbed for a coolant tank and pump. Cutting titanium dry is a death sentence for tooling, not to mention that the chips are highly flammable. Those Jesels are huge, I'm curious as how much smaller you can make them with titanium before you start losing strength. The intake side isn't the issue, it's the ungodly long exhaust rockers. Maybe if they were cut similar to the original Ford forgings with the rib down the center would work. I dropped the heads off to go to the welder, so they can be used with a standard 385 head gasket. I probably won't see them again for another month, so I should have some time to play with rocker idea in Solidworks.

If you get something drawn up in cad, post it up if you would. It would be nice to see your design. Lots of guys on here with some good knowledge of what might of might not work. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your endeavors! ---RED
