AOD with Chevy Bellhousing???
so I am perusing the YB classifieds, and I come across this:AOD with Chevy Bellhousing
have never heard of anyone putting a Ford AOD tranny behind a Chevy motor. It got two inquiries in the same day and the guy states sale is pending the next day....I find that interesting. I know those FB trannies are supposed to be pretty good...but anyone know why they might want to put a 3-speed-only version of an AOD in a car like that instead of like a TH350 or....?
Just wondering.

wow...and all you hear about is how heavy these AOD's are...very interesting.
I'm just wondering because my car is getting an AOD.

good to know. Mine is fresh but was in a car that ran 9.20's...and I don't plan on running near that, so I hope it holds up. Has some good parts in it.
I know the ones FB builds (and Lentech) have held some serious power...like 1200-1500.

You do know that the power glide started out as a ford tranny.

I didn't know that.
I know that the cast iron glide was put in cars starting around 1949 and the aluminum version was around 1962. The Ford-O-matic was a two speed in 1959 and also as a pretty cool (for then) a 3spd from about 1951 to the late 60's. In drive it started out in 2nd gear and shifted to 3rd but also had an L position that you could manually shift to go to low.
My grandpa is an avid Ford and Ford Edsel car restorer.
