Are the 429 and 460 flywheels the same? confused

Up to 1978 they are the same. In 1979 Ford changed the 460 to external balance. The 1979 and later use a weighted flywheel and a weighted crank spacer. You can also use an FE flywheel in the early motors, you just have to match up the correct starter tooth wise.

I thought that was the case, I had some jackass know it all tell me that was not true the other day. Just wanted to make sure.

the only real diff is real 429cj/scjs and t/jet 429used on n code torinos/clyclone are larger and use a different bell,and block saver plate because starter location is different,and some trucks early80s,f250 350 stuff are for 12 clutches


if your looking for a easy way use a 351m/400 bell,and use a 390 wheel,ballance the wheel if you are useing a later 460 (78 newer 3y crank) ,then use a 351 m,400 starter,or factory 429 starter,it all fits
