went to t/t today to thrash the new glide.left of the brake at 3800,wheels up about a foot ,smooth pass.6800rpm was the sweet spot for shift and went 6800 at the lights Cool.1.26 60"/5.81/117mph.not bad.BUT the c4 done the same, footbraken, last year.so much for the "magic"glide. Mad

it's an 8" ptc.they said it was best they could do without goen 9.5".it works great, rpm drops about 1200 at shift and pulls hard all the way.i tried a 7000 shift and slowed to 5.83.plugs look good but i'm tinken more carb.

8" seems a bit small, surprised it falls back that good. I bet you put some more power to it and it will boogie.

What converter did the c4 have? what does the car weight?

it's been years but it weighed bout 2500#w/o me.the c4 had a 10" in it last that worked good footbraken but it would go to the bumper if i transbraked it.i was thinken it would mph more than 117 @ 6800 but it's gona have some "slip"i guess.i'm gona change some stuff now,i just wanted to see what the trans did first.

I have a 5500 converter than slips about 3.4%, at your weight the 60' is good, but looks like it lacks some hp.

You might be at the point where the c4/glide break even....if it didnt spin with the c/4 then the 2 speed may not help much. You put more power to it the glide will shine..............and I think there is some to get in the converter department.

what first gear ratio does the tranny have in it?

4.86 gear/15x33 m/t's.it's a little lower on compression than i'd liked it to be,flat top's with A460's,but i still think i'm overlooking something.

If the numbers you gave are right thats 15.94% which is terrible. An 8" converter has no place behind a BB Ford IMO.

if your getting it to 6800 in the 1/8th then it dont matter....sucker is too loose. Not the 1st time PTC missed a converter setup...ask Blake how many it took.

We had an 8" Chance bolt together behind our 557" A460 head combo, had less than 5% slippage. 14% is not acceptable at all. Get the right converter and the 'glide will shine, just like Jon said. Personally, I'd loose the 4.86 gear as well, but that's me. We ran a 4.57 gear, worked for 1/8th and 1/4 just as well.

an easy test is to drain all the at fluid out and fill back up with the JD Hygard hyd oil, it will snug up the converter approx 200 rpm, not a fix but will give you some idea. One of them S98 Toyota core converters are real popular now........work damn good. Hell my 9" converter was as tight as it would go and even with the c/4 and hyd oil in it it was too loose. The deal I have now is actually a bit on the tight side, but its working. Instead of sending it back to Lenny I'll just up the power this fall lol.

call lenny at ultimate converter my 9 inch in a 532 bbf with a glide @3260 will run 5.60 on motor with eldebrock heads stock suspension and true 10.5 tires, something is seriously wrong with your combo you get it sorted out it should run some 5.50's easy.

I know ultimate converter is a good choice. I have never used them but I do know some guys that do and are very pleased.

our glide sounded like a three speed with the ptc converter. we picked up .15 with only the converter change and the last combo was optimized pretty well. we had less than 2% slippage on the big end.

dont think its making a 1000 maybe 875-900 but its got a set of massaged eldebrock heads some paccaloy valve springs a pretty big solid roller and forged bottom end 9 inch UCC pro mod converter with diode sometimes i leave in high gear if the track is ruff but the car consistently runs in the 5.7O range it has dipped in the 5.69 once but i was just saying with a set of a460 heads and at 2500-2600 pounds his car should be flying sorry to exaggerate a little Embarassed
