Engine run-in Q. Empty Engine run-in Q.

Post  dutchie July 11th 2010, 2:50 am

Hello,
Currently i'm in the process of building my 466.
Now, there comes a pont that the engine needs to be run in.
The first 20 minutes is no problem, dropping a carb. on it, hose, small electric pump, jerrycan of gas, and voila.

The next 700 miles however are a whole different story!
In my current car, there's no gasoline tank anymore, solely LPG.
There are some people that claim i have the engine run-in on gas, not LPG.
When i ask why, i get several different stories...

Any good opinions here why it should, ar shold not be advisable to go on LPG fron start?

Thanks.

I worked a long time at a local propane co. here. We did all our own rebuilds and never did we have problem breaking one in on LPG. We had a bobtail with a 429 that had 312,000 that we rebuilt because it was clatering, only way to describe it. This truck only ever had LPG, not one gallon of gasoline was ever burned in that motor, was broken in on LPG completely and never had a problem. We did samething with the pump motors all of them were broke in on LPG and never had problems with any of 70 or 80 300 i6's that we took care of. Also keep in mind we used all stock replacement parts so a performance build may have to be different, but I cant see why.

just make sure you have proper regular oil and some zinc additive for flat tappet cam break-in. fuel as stated just use what youre going to be using and change the oil after a few hundred miles... then switch to synthetic if youd like Smile
