Factory 427 R code in a 66 Caliente Need Comments

Post  vegasparky on September 27th 2010, 1:33 am

I didn't know there was a 427 R code option available in 66, anyone have any input or documentation, i thought 390 and maybe 428 were only options, i sold them new from 68 to 71, not sure that far back. Thanks T
But then i remember a friend that had a 67 Fairlane 427.

Check the VIN numbers, if so I think it would show in the 5th diget as an R......

Not sure about the Caliente, but I found a site showing an R code option available in the Fairlane of the same year.

Yes, Im looking in an older NADA book and it only shows 289,390,410 and 428 engines available that year. I did find it in vehicleidentificationnumbers.com and it shows and R code 427 w/2-4's available. It also says they only made 8 cars with R code in 67 and are worth alot more, this may be the only Merc. made with an R code, at least that im awhere of. Im waiting for him to call me back. May be a scam....

My brother bought a 66 Cyclone GT w/427 and big nose 4 speed. It was the baddest street car around back then. Traded it in for a 70 Mark Donahue(red, white, blue) Javelin. What a pos Evil or Very Mad Still kicks his self for that one Rolling Eyes
