I have a stock block that has the block work done and was thinking of trying to put it together.Check the bore it .060 so i need pistons and rings for that. Was woundering for someone like me what the tricks to putting your first motor together. Just a project that i always wanted to do.It might be over my head but i like to mess with a bbf. If anyone on here has put thier first motor together and could help me learn a trick or two i would be very thankful.Have not did any thing with the A-460 block bought from lem yet so i would love to use a 4.5 crank and 6.8 rods so if i need them in the futher.

Filing rings isn't that hard to do. It's a simple skill that you probably oughta learn. Basically, if you can check the gaps (you wouldn't screw an engine together without CHECKING, right?), then you can probably file 'em, too. It's just a matter of how fancy your tools might be.....from a basic file to an electric filer. Your biggest investment will be your time if you want to do it the Wink old fashioned way.

I've had to file the "non-file fit" rings before...............in other words just because they say they are doesnt mean you shouldn't check them....and adjust if needed.

You may need to have them "fitted" to get proper clearance too.

with all these questions you are asking...... I suggest you find someone who knows the right way to build an Engine ..........someone that will check every thing that needs. not some fly by night so called self proclaimed engine builder that will just slap it together.....

There is no better way to learn than what you are doing. Ask questions from people who know, and take your time and measure, measure, and measure. Then take more time and be sure. Cool
