I have '76 f250 that had a 460 swapped in it. It has a 184 tooth FE flywheel and I believe it is a 351m/400 bell housing. Ive tried a starter from a 400 it doesnt seem be close enough to the fly wheel [the starter gear spins over the top of the fly wheel teeth]. im thinking about trying a FE starter. Does a FE starter work on the 400 bell housing for this combo? I could also pull the starter out of my '97 F350 just to try it. Any sugetsions how to get this to work? I dont really want to take it apart and change the fly wheel if possible.

I may be wrong, but, I believe the FE flywheel is the deal breaker. Maybe someone else will chime in with an idea.

Isn't the 460 a 164 tooth wheel?
