Building and all out drag motor Empty Building and all out drag motor

Post  Dre Day December 30th 2010, 8:41 am

In the process of building an all out drag car 1992 mustang gt with 25.2 chassis stock suspension powergide trans fab 9 rear. wonting to go with a stock block either a 429 or 460 to try and save a little money. The performace I'm wonting to get out of the block is at least 1000 + or as close as possible and then run 2-4 stages of nitrous on top of 1000 Horses in all trying to get about 1500 + horsepower. Is this even possible with a stock block and Wich block would you recomend. And What's the best way to go about doing it ? Open to all replies. Thanks

what class do you want to run ?? what are the rules ?? what times are they turning ?? etc ....

definetly go with an a460 block, a460 heads (if the rules permit) 570-600 cubes , single carb will get you there ,

but i would give Lem Evans a call to discuss your build , he is a great guy and will be glad to help you out on this process

with that class and at the weight the car needs to be you gonna need some juice for 7.90's and a ton of juice for 7.00 's .... probably a triple fogger setup should make you competive in that class .....

Run that engine as high in the RPM range as your valve train weight will allow.
Make the rest of the components match THAT maximum RPM.

\

that depends on a few things...

what heads are we using?,are we using a stock ratio? will I need to clearance the pushrod slots? make rocker stand shims? using a shaft rocker?, now push rods max effort high rpm can be 300.00 easy, springs to controll the valves 350 to 400.00 plus, now valves tit 2000.00avg price, more r and d time,am i using a stock lenght? keepers/ret's. theres a lot to think about

Whether or not it is considered a PREMIUM valve train has little to do with the weight of that valve train.

thats another loaded question, i would never try to make a max power pump gas engine with nos, you will get to a point with the pump gas and nos it will not make anymore power, and fall off.Or it will selfdestruck rpm wont even be in the math its going to go wheres its going to go . max power pump gas n.a. is different, but the 93 and lower oct will hold you back with nos.
