Dipstick Question

Post  njstang87 on April 5th 2011, 3:03 pm

I have a 1993 Mustang hatchback with a 460/c6 in it. Has anyone found a transmission dipstick that will work well in the mustang chassis? Thanks

I hate to say it too loud on here because I know we have some haters but the Lokar flexible unit is nice.

I'm using the Hughes lockable dipstick. Had to bend the mounting tab slightly to get it to fit, works great.

My buddy has one and it's usually a pita to fill the trans up with fluid. I got an old gear oil bottle with the tip on it, cut it down until it would still fit inside the dipstick tube but make the biggest hole in the tip, the fill it with fluid and force feed it down the tube. It's a lot better than trying to use a funnel.

Mine came with a peace of aluminum tube on a plastic hose that will fit in the dip stick hole and the funnel fit on the hose.Could figure out what it was until I got my dip stick installed and started to fill it.

x2 on the hughes dipstick. have used the lokar and never cound get it to seal in trans without a lot of silicone. none has to be used with the hughes; and i think the fluid level on the the lokar was wrong as i now put in between 1-1 1/2 quarts more trans fluid which will help in cooling.

I like to use these: http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/trans-dipsticks/trans-dipstick-pages/lock-flex-trans-dipstick.html

Can't remember which one to use with Fords but you don't need that filler adaptor crap and it is badass.

I used one of the others but can't remember which one. If you talk to them they can tell you.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Didn't know it was going to cost me $50! Has anyone modified a stock dipstick tube to fix the mustang chassis?

When I first put a BB in my Mustang I used the chrome C-6 dipstick that was sold by FRPP which is basically a stock style dipstick that was chromed, so I'm sure a stocker will fit fine. Other than bending the tab a little to adjust the positioning it fit in my 1992 just fine. I've still got it, but I went with the Hughes because of the locking feature. It also has a better seal where it goes in the case.

to be NHRA legal it has to have the locking feature. if you have the stock tube just go find a locking dipstick out of a chebby vehicle from the 90's-early 2000's. just cut to length. the hughes locking top is just a gm one that is red.
